Russian Public Committee to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations

On the initiative of the UN Association of Russia and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and the UN Information Center, the Russian Public Committee for the UN 75th Anniversary (UN-75 Committee) was established, which included over 100 representatives of the modern school of diplomacy, business, politics, mass media, science and creativity, as well as public figures. A plan of economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian activities was prepared and implemented with the participation of a wide range of Russian public, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the UN.

Russia has organized photo exhibitions devoted to the UN, held forums, Olympiads, international conferences, round tables and exhibitions. In the offices of the UN system in New York, Geneva, Vienna, Paris there were exhibitions devoted to the history of the United Nations and Russia's participation in its activities.

As part of the activities of the UN-75 Committee, on October 23, 2020 in the UN European Office in Geneva, Anatoly Karpov, 16-time world chess champion and member of the State Duma, gave a simultaneous game session on 20 boards in honor of the UN anniversary. The event was attended by Tatiana Valovaya, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, as well as Francesco Pisano, Director of the United Nations Library in Geneva. In addition, on the eve of the UN Day the international philatelic exhibition "Rossika-2020" dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the UN was opened at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation. It presented rare postage stamps of collectors from 11 countries, including Russia, Switzerland and France.
