Event Announcement “Bridging Regions and Empowering Citizens for Climate and Human Rights: Pathways to a Sustainable Future”
On 7 November 2025, at 10:00 (Rio de Janeiro) / 16:00 (Moscow), the international hybrid event “Bridging Regions and Empowering Citizens for Climate and Human Rights: Pathways to a Sustainable Future” will take place. The event is organized by the United Nations Associations of Brazil and Russia (UNA-Brazil, UNA-Russia) in cooperation with the United Nations Information Centres in Rio de Janeiro and Moscow, the UN Global Compact Networks of both countries, and with the support of the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the Government of the City of Moscow.
In the lead-up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, this meeting will bring together representatives of civil society, government authorities, international organizations, and the private sector to discuss the key challenges at the intersection of climate policy, human rights, and regional cooperation. The event aims to promote inclusive, rights-based climate solutions, strengthen the role of democratic institutions and civic engagement in ensuring a just transition toward sustainable development, and foster city-to-city and interregional cooperation as a foundation for local climate innovation.
Special attention will be given to the exchange of best practices between Moscow and Rio de Janeiro in the areas of climate adaptation and green infrastructure development. An important focus will also be placed on the role of business in achieving climate goals through the principles of the UN Global Compact, as well as on strengthening international coordination and knowledge exchange between countries of the Global North and Global South.
Following the discussions, recommendations will be prepared for presentation at COP30 in Belém. The event will contribute to the development of interregional dialogue and the strengthening of partnerships within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
