On 15 April, a meeting of the Russian Public Committee for the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations (UN-80 Committee) was held. Participants reviewed and discussed the action plan for the anniversary year, which includes the organization of academic and practical conferences, youth forums, flagship events in the Model United Nations format, as well as the release of thematic publications and multimedia projects.

The UN-80 Committee was established upon the initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergey Lavrov, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the United Nations Information Centre in Moscow, and the UN Country Team in the Russian Federation. The Committee's main objective is to coordinate and facilitate a wide range of activities aimed at highlighting the Organization’s significant contribution to the development of international relations, the strengthening of global peace and security, and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Committee brings together representatives of the academic community, diplomatic corps, international organizations, the private sector, civil society, as well as figures from the cultural sphere and the media. Currently, over 70 members from diverse sectors are engaged in the Committee’s work.

The 2025 programme includes over 85 planned initiatives, such as international scientific conferences and expert roundtables, lectures, masterclasses, youth forums, and Model UN simulations; the publication of academic and analytical compilations and books; as well as exhibitions, photo displays, and commemorative events showcasing key milestones of the United Nations’ work.
