HLPF 2026, side event of the UNA-Russia: Transformative and Coordinated SDG Action in Russia: Advancing Voluntary Local Reviews, Regional Governance and Business Engagement
In July 2026, on the margins of the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2026), the United Nations Association of Russia (UNA-Russia) will convene a side event entitled “Transformative and Coordinated SDG Action in Russia: Voluntary Local Reviews, Regional Governance and Business Engagement”. The event is currently planned to take place on 6 July 2026 (tentative date).
The event is organized by the United Nations Association of Russia with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, MGIMO University and the United Nations Information Centre in Moscow.
The discussion will focus on practical approaches to advancing the 2030 Agenda through coordinated action among government institutions, regional authorities, the private sector, academia, civil society, and youth. Participants will explore how the principles of transformative, equitable, innovative, and coordinated action are being translated into concrete sustainable development initiatives across the Russian Federation.
The event will highlight the experience of Russian regions that have integrated the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into regional development strategies and governance frameworks, demonstrating effective cooperation between national and subnational levels in support of sustainable and inclusive growth.
Special attention will be given to the Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of Russian Region, showcasing how local and regional review mechanisms can complement national reporting processes, strengthen accountability, and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
The programme will also feature the presentation of the 2026 report “Contribution of Russian Companies to the Implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals” illustrating how Russian businesses are increasingly embedding sustainability principles into their strategies, operations, and stakeholder engagement practices.
Recognizing the importance of inclusive participation, the event will provide a platform for youth representatives to contribute their perspectives on SDG localization and long-term sustainable development.
Bringing together representatives of government, business, academia, international organizations, and civil society, the event will showcase practical and replicable examples of multi-stakeholder cooperation in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and the objectives of HLPF 2026.
